A Cerec machine is a type of computer-aided design (CAD) technology that is used to create dental restorations such as crowns, inlays, onlays, and veneers. The machine uses digital impressions of the patient's teeth, which are taken with an intraoral scanner, to create a virtual model of the tooth. This virtual model is then used to design and create the restoration, which is usually made of ceramic. The restoration is then milled or 3D printed in-office, and can be placed on the patient's tooth in the same appointment. The Cerec machine allows for faster treatment time, as it eliminates the need for traditional impressions, and the patient does not need to come back for a second appointment to have the restoration placed. It also allows for precision and accuracy in the design and milling of the restoration.
